Proper Tie Storage for an Out of Town Guest

Today I have a friend of mine visiting. Well, he really isn’t coming down to visit me and my wife but he is coming down to Los Angeles for a job interview.  As you know, it is important to look your best when you are going to have a job interview. This is a very important interview for my friend, as he has been looking for work for the last few months to little success (I mean, who has had any success looking for a job these days?). Anyways, to his horror he realized he forgot his tie at home! Luckily I have a whole bunch of amazing ties that I have stowed away in proper tie storage.

So even though he had a bit of a heart attack this morning getting ready for his interview, everything turned out alright. He looked sharp and ready to seize the day, and I got a chance to show off some of the best practices for proper tie storage. It was really a learning experience for all of us. Actually, I take that back it was only a learning experience for him. It was a teaching experience for me.

A proper tie storage teaching experience! Something I do not take lightly, that is to be sure. Most of the time I am teaching amazing tie storage tips to a bunch of strangers, whom I never get to see the faces of. But today, I got to teach one of my very best friends about the importance of proper tie storage! What a day!

I told him about how important it is to have a tie rack that keeps your ties off the ground, and a tie rack that is able to grip your ties in a firm but not too-tight manner. That way your ties do not get dimples and creases in them.  Of course my tie rack of choice is the Friction Tie Rack Hanger.

Tie Rack Storage is a Pre-Draft Day Necessity

Over here at the Tie Racks Blog, us tie rack storage fans are also huge sports fans. Whether it is March Madness (what a month!) or the Superbowl (what a night!) there is no doubt we will be transfixed on the tube.

However, there is one sporting “event” that I honestly do not see the appeal of. It is only marginally related to sports and does not involve any actually athletic ability. Despite this, it is becoming one of the most watched sporting specials of the year.

What I am talking about is the unexplainable popularity of the National Football League’s Draft. I get the excitement about finding out what promising new athlete is going to be joining your team in August – But the level of excitement over this mostly-inane event completely boggles my mind.

Half of the time these players end up being no-good benchwarmers, yet they get giant contracts that eat up their team’s available salary. Honestly watching the NFL Draft is almost like a preview of what player you are going to despise in two-to-three years.

For every Cam Newton, Peyton Manning and John Elway that gets drafted number one overall, there is an Akili Smith, Ryan Leaf and Jamarcus Russell. At least Russell knew how to have a good time.

This post does have a little bit to do with tie rack storage

Okay, I’ll admit it; there is one thing about the NFL draft that I love. It is the same thing I love about the Heisman Presentation (also incredibly boring), the NBA Draft (does anyone still watch basketball?) and even the ESPYs.

What am I talking about?

I am talking about all of the amazing ties that are on display at these events. Think about how huge these guys are – six foot three, three hundred pounds…. Six foot five, two-twenty pounds… Those are some gigantic ties! I just salivate thinking about the kind kind of tie rack storage that is necessary for those guys to hang up those ties! I mean, each tie must be 3 or 4 feet long!

Tie Rack Storage

And of course these men know they are going to be on TV in front of a national audience, so they always have the most fashion-forward ties.

Who can forget the classic 80’s tie Karl Malone wore when he was drafted by the Utah Jazz? Man that squared-off short tie makes him look amazing! No wonder he went on to be one of the best players in NBA history.

If you are a tall man or a guy with a big neck and require some extra-long ties, I would recommend looking into a rotating tie rack for your tie rack storage needs. What makes this perfect for larger ties is that it mounts to the closet rod. As long as your ties are not longer than your closet is tall, you should be alright. Additionally, this tie rack storage solution includes a light!

I am looking forward to this year’s NBA playoffs getting started, but it is not because I like basketball all that much. In fact, I just tune in halfway through the fourth quarter, that’s the only exciting part of the game to me. I am just looking forward to watching the post-game pressers and seeing what unique tie Dwight Howard is wearing next time, maybe I’ll write him suggestion some tie rack storage solutions.

Cedar Tie Rack: Smell Great in the Closet!

One of my favorite materials for the closet or any other clothing storage area is cedar. Whether it is a cedar tie rack, cedar hanger, cedar belt rack – you name it, I love it! The way that the wood gives off a fresh scent and keeps my closet smelling fresh at all times is probably my favorite feature. However it is also a very durable wood material that holds up over long term storage.

Part of the reason I love cedar wood in the closet is that I keep a pretty untidy home. My closet has what is basically a “carpet” of dirty laundry at all times. Let me tell you, all of that laundry sitting there all week can get pretty stinky. As we approach the summertime, this problem becomes more and more apparent.

That is why when it comes time to find new organizational accessories for my bedroom and closet, the first thing I look to is cedar. There are so many different types of cedar storage items available, but today I will just stay on topic and highlight my favorite cedar tie racks.

These are a few of my favorite… Cedar Tie Racks.

Modern Tie Rack – It’s Never Too Late For Valentine’s Day

In my opinion, one of the most romantic gifts a woman can bestow upon her man is a state of the art modern tie rack. One that leaves him impressed – because she knew it was “exactly what I wanted,” and that you “had your eye on that tie rack for months!”

Everyone knows the cliché that Valentine’s Day is a pressure cooker for guys in relationships. There is a ton of pressure for dudes in a new(ish) relationship to go over-the-top in impressing their significant other. On the other side of the coin, men in longer relationships need to show the flame is still there.

However, everyone knows clichés are never really very accurate, and women feel tons of pressure make Valentine’s Day a great day too. One of the toughest things is finding a great gift. Well like I said before, I am never displeased to discover it is a brand new tie rack under that pink argyle gift-wrap!

Modern Tie Rack

The rack my honey gave me last year. Ain’t it a beaut?

A Modern Tie Rack Blew My Mind Last Year

Last year, my wife really stepped it up and got me a state of the art modern tie rack. This is no ordinary tie rack, no, this tie rack is motorized! With the push of a button I can whirl that bad boy around and find the perfect tie for the day.

Not only that, but it has a light function, so I don’t even have to turn on the lights in the bedroom to find my ties! I think that is a feature that both my wife and I can enjoy!

So to all those people out there with a special someone that has a lot of ties, keep your eyes peeled for the next great state of the art tie rack. You never know what amazing features it might have!

A Great Tie Rack for Valentines Day

Taking out the garbage, repairing that broken fence in the backyard, coaching your son’s little league tee ball team, taking the car to Pep Boys for a tune up, cooking up a four-course dinner before you go on a romantic date together – for some lucky ladies, these tasks are just a day in the life when they are with the man of their dreams. Stereotypically, it is the man that is left feeling the pressure when Valentine’s Day comes around. But when you have such an amazing man in your life, you cannot help but want to make this a special holiday.

One of the most classic gifts for Valentine’s Day is a fancy silk tie – not only is it a functional gift but it can also show a little individuality as you can select the tie pattern. However, many of our husbands or boyfriends already have an abundance of ties in the closet. It makes little sense to get them yet another tie when they have a huge issue just keeping the neckpieces they currently own organized.

This year, instead of the trite necktie, try a new spin on the classic gift – instead of a tie, get them a state-of-the-art tie rack that makes organization and finding the right tie easy. There are a wide variety of tie racks available on the market, from the standard cedar wood, wall-mounted peg rack – to the more sophisticated such as a light-up, rotating tie rack that connects to the closet rod.

No matter what type of tie rack you choose, the man in your life is surely going to appreciate the ability to organize and find tie racks quickly and efficiently. Instead of being stressed every morning because his favorite tie is wrinkly from sitting on the floor, or being stressed out because they cannot find the right tie for their big job interview, he will locate that neckpiece with ease and be ready to go right away!

A Brief History of the Necktie

We all wear them from time to time, little decorative collars that hang down our chest, adding a little bit of “flare” to our outfit. Maybe it is for church, business, celebration or whatever, but every man at some point has to clumsily attempt to pull off the Double Windsor and wear the old necktie. Maybe as you are strangling yourself while you try to tighten the knot, or frustratingly tying and untying the knot to get it at the correct length you have though to yourself, “Why am I wearing this contraptions anyways?!?!”

Well of course, like anything in fashion the modern tie sprang up after Parisians took a liking to the decorative garb of a group of Croatian mercenaries from the Croatian Military Frontier. After the French adopted it and called the early necktie a “cravat”, a full-fledged fashion craze swept the continent of Europe – and it wasn’t just for guys either.

Around the 19th century the tie had become a staple of formal wear, and in fact several publications were released specifying the proper way to tie and wear your cravat. At this time they were merely a proto-necktie, much more decorative and even sometimes lacy, and worn at quite a bit shorter length. But then along came the Industrial Revolution and the need for a more practical, durable and most importantly, comfortable tie and the modern necktie was born. Since then the style and preferred length of ties has morphed and melded with the ever-changing tide of fashion, but has basically retained its general form.

Now, I’m not sure how they ever stored all of their neckties back in the 19th and early 20th century, but today there are a wide variety of tie racks available, from wall mounted racks made of cedar up to motorized tie racks that rotate around and allow you to find your tie easily. Whatever your need, be sure to keep those ties hung up and looking great because nothing is worse than a frazzled tie!

Cedar Tie Racks: Save your Sweater

When holiday season comes around it is time to bust out the old Yuletide sweaters! You know, the ones that you keep bordered up in the back of your closet all year just wear a few times for this special season of the year. If you have a lot of clothing made from natural fibers, a constant threat to your garments are moths and their insatiable hunger for all things wooly. Finding your favorite ironic sweater totally tunneled through on the collar and sleeves could very well derail your entire holiday experience.

One of the best ways to keep moths away from your clothes is using cedar blocks – plus they add that great “I just came out of the woods after chopping down trees” smell! One great way to add function and cedar to your closet and protect those sentimentally valuable sweaters is to use a cedar Tie Rack!

There are a wide variety of cedar tie racks that come in different shapes and sizes. For example, this tie rack hangs from your closet pole, providing a powerful blast of cedar to the nearby clothing while offering a place to store up to 40 ties!

Hanging Tie Rack

Another great option is to use a wall mounted tie rack such as the one seen below. This rack offers a little less storage but is a more permanent fixture in the closet. What is great about this tie rack is that it is on a stable surface, so ties will not be constantly falling to the floor, which can often be the case with hanging tie racks.

By using these tie racks that are made from cedar you can help ward away unwanted sweater-eating creepy crawlers like moths. At the same time adding excellent storage and organization to your closet, this is a win-win decision!

A Gifty Tie Rack!

Looking for a great gift for a guy friend for the holidays?  Maybe you’ve been giving your dad, brother or hubby ties for years for gifts and now he needs a safe place to keep them.  Or maybe you’re just getting your guy friend started on a tie collection.  Whatever your situation, a men’s tie rack is a great gift idea for that special guy in your life.  Here is my guide to buying the right tie gift for guys, broken down by relationship.

For Dad:

The Tie Rack – Get him something special, and something automatic.  A rotating tie rack is an extra special gift for your father; it really shows your love.  The beauty of these is that they often have an automatic light with them, so getting dressed in the morning is really not a problem.  Also they turn easily, allowing you to select a tie with ease!

For Your Boyfriend:

An over the closet rod style hanging tie rack is the way to go.  It’s a thoughtful gift and allows him to use it without any special mounting to the walls, after all it is his place!

For your Brother:

Go with a sleek, modern chrome or finished wooden tie rack that mounts to the wall.  It’s something he can keep for years and will remember you for each time he selects a tie in the morning.

For your Husband:

Really if you are buying a tie rack for your husband, you are also buying it for yourself.  Maybe you want a little extra room in the closet and this is just the way to gain it!  Or maybe you are sick of his ties falling all over the floor of your shared walk-in.  I suggest an automatic spinning tie rack or a wall mounted version.  Cedar is a nice choice and repels moths and insects, a major bonus for your wardrobe as well!
